Evaluation Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

From my audience feedback, I have learned that it’s difficult to get the audience to understand the message I want to get across in 3 minutes. The surreal effects were a comment left on my feedback forms, which I added, making my music video more aesthetically pleasing. Feedback of the lack and white and colour grading of my music video received positive feedback. The feedback forms allowed me to get direct feedback from my demographic as the music video was tailored to people of the same age group as I. As I was close to the project, the feedback forms highlighted my mistakes or opportunities to revise in editing, cinematography and mise en scene which allowed me to rectify them for my final product.

Draft of Music Video

In this draft I have got rid of any white lines, and synced up any out of place videos to the music. I have taken out some surreal shots such as the hand on the wall. I just need to fix the green screened mirror in Adobe After Effects.

Digipak and Poster

It was suggested to make minor changes to my digipak and poster. For my poster I needed to take out 'out now' and remove the front cover for the digipak, as it was thought that this image was strong enough as a front cover and should be changed from the original.

New Music Video

I have followed the feedback and attempted to fix my music video. Some of the lip syncing is still off, I think I need to add additional 'weird'/surreal shots and finalise some of the cuts.

Updated Music Video

I have changed the MP3 file to WAV and it sounds a lot better because it doesn't skip. I need to still sync up my music video - I really like the more surreal shots and I think I should add more. My favourite shot is the chandelier. I still to to cut some shots down and fill the blank space at about 1.40 during the video.

I have changed this video to a desaturated tone rather than colour which I prefer, the music still cuts out a bit during the music video so I think I'll try converting the MP3 to AIFF instead. I still have a few shots that need to be cut down.




It was suggested that to get across the idea that the girl has gone insane to edit s few shots weirdly - such as mirroring a shot and repeating them later in the video, a clip going forwards or backwards etc, like Radiohead's Street Spirit video

I really like the fades and I think it links well to my fades during the narrative part of my music video when the girl is rocking back and forth.

Current Music Video

I have reshot the performance aspect of the video and reshot some bits for the narrative and this is the current video - I think that adding these additional location shots splits up the video and doesn't make the audience bored with seeing the same repeated shots. The white background also makes it stand out more from the darker backgrounds. I need to cut down a few shots and sync up the singing in the music video, especially towards the end. The music sounds a bit off, to I think I need to convert the file to a WAV in order for it not to skip - I also need to desaturate the video again before my final cut.

Shooting Schedule

Shooting will be going ahead on Tuesday, I just need to plan to edit.

Influences

As pointed out in my feedback sheets my music video is quite current with the Sia music videos due to the blonde wigs and the idea of the young girl being mentally unstable. Perhaps due to the media I was subconsciously influenced by these current videos:




A video that influenced with me by making a film that deals with unstable mentality has also slightly influenced me in creating my music., especially the part of the music video where the protagonist throws the chair.

Shooting Schedule - January

 I sent an email to a teacher that teaches in a studio room for access to reshoot the performance aspect to my video, which all members for the performance are up for filming. Hopefully, this shall be my shooting schedule for the following month.

Music Video Feedback

I agree with some of the comments. I need to rearrange for the performance aspect of the music video. The vocalist of the video needs to make more of aggressive performance. Perhaps I should add an affect to the video the make the narrative side of the video to seem more creepy. In terms of editing I need to make the pace of the edit much shorter and introduce the narrative earlier on the video. I also need to show more of Terry in the video as he is only featured a few times. I need to sort out the ratio aspect of the video as when it is shown in youtube it looks weird.

This is my new poster after the feedback that was given.

With the digipak track listing I think that it isn't hard to read. I also think that when they refer to the title of the album being hard to read, I think it is due to the layout.
